I’ve lived in Colorado for almost 30 years now and still feel deeply grateful to be surrounded by such awesome natural beauty. Before coming here I traveled through Europe and Africa and lived in Germany for almost 14 years. Those experiences led me to discover my passion for language and for understanding how languages and cultures program us and affect our identities. My day job is as that of a cultural psychologist who helps people from different cultures bridge the language and culture barriers that create what I like to call mind distance. I’ve been working with my dreams for about 35 years and have explored many approaches to dream work, but the one that has helped me and transformed me the most to date was working with Arnold Mindell and the Process Work community.
I’ve been doing mindfulness meditation since 2005 and that has been wonderfully mind-opening and gratifying. To date I haven’t been able to achieve much lucidity in my dreams but I’m hoping becoming a member of this community/sangha will inspire, educate and support me in that direction.
And I hope that I will be able to reciprocate that support. I’m currently reading Braiding Sweet Grass by Robin Wimmerer which attempts to marry western science and indigenous wisdom. Her explanation of the indigenous emphasis on reciprocity seems very analogous to the Buddhist notion of interdependence. And both seem essential for the well being of a community as well as for healing our planet’s current crisis.
