Iโ€™m re-reading Tulku Thundopโ€™s โ€œPeacefulDeath, Joyful Rebirth: A Tibetan Buddhist Guidebook,โ€ mostly to review his rich presentation on the Tibetan views of the Pure Lands. This book is also a tremendous resource for what you can do after someone has died, and has the most extensive exposition on the delogs, or those who voluntarily โ€œdieโ€ and then come back to talk about it. One of my top five books on the bardos, this gentle classic is one I return to almost annually.

Iโ€™m in the middle of โ€œMore Than Allegory: On religious myth, truth, and beliefโ€ by Bernardo Kastrup. Of the dozen or so he has written, this is Bernardoโ€™s favorite book. More Than Allegory takes the study of myth to a new level, showing how it transcends the power of intellect in revealing transcendent truths. Myths are not just allegorically true, they point to things the rational mind cannot approach. Written by one of the great rational thinkers these days, this book has many eye-opening insights.

Iโ€™m reading Lucid Talisman:Forgotten Lore, by Ryan Hurd. This is a short, but very sweet, rendering of a magical lucid dreaming induction technique, that also serves a multitude of other purposes. It has augmented my understanding, and experience, of an ancient alchemical approach to liminal objects, and liminal experiences. The first time I tried Ryanโ€™s talisman, I did indeed have a potent lucid dream.

Iโ€™m slowly reading the remarkable book โ€œBehave: The Biology of Humans at Our Best and Worst,โ€ by the neurobiologist Robert Sapolsky. Itโ€™s a massive contribution, gathering together from so many disciplines the factors that co-conspire to โ€œmakeโ€ us do what we do. Few books come along that offer as much as this one. Youโ€™ll learn a lot about yourself, and others, by taking the time to dive into this one.

Iโ€™m reading Digital Minimalism:Choosing a Focused Life in a Noisy World, by Cal Newport. If we donโ€™t take control over the epidemic of online toxic spills, addiction to our devices, and all the other massive shadow sides of current internet technology, weโ€™ll be like the proverbial frog placed in warming waters that is eventually boiled alive. This is an easy read, full of practical tips and honest advice for how to detox from all our weapons of mass distraction.

Iโ€™m reading Yoga Nidra: The Art of Transformational Sleep, by Kamini Desai, PhD. Itโ€™s a thorough look at the practice of the yoga of sleep, with everything you need to know to get going. Most renderings of Yoga Nidra fall short, and donโ€™t go into the deep end of the pool, where the real gifts of this practice lie. This book goes to that depth.
