My brother and his wife, along with my aging parents live near South Pasadena, a ways south from the Altadena fire. They are safe but report lots of smoke in the air. I’m thankful that they are safe and not having to deal with evacuation. I was just down there at the end of November.
One report I heard mentioned the toxicity of the LA smoke and likened it to 9/11 Manhattan. I hope they are taking precautions both inside and outside their home!
They are keeping the smoke out of the house as much as possible and wearing masks if they have to go out. There’s not a whole lot more that they can do.
In '62 they already had a massive hit in England and in '63 Beattlemania was starting in the U.S. Hard to believe that George was playing with a band in Illinois then!
I just fact checked on Google and it’s true!
I was in 3rd grade then and I remember all of the little girls were talking about which Beattle was the cutest. I hadn’t heard of them yet and remember asking them, “What are you talking about?! Beetles?!” Soon after that I saw them on the Ed Sullivan show and started listening to them and all of the British invasion groups on top 40 AM radio.
Dec 31, 1963 I read about them in Newsweek (England’s Phenomenal Pop Combo, headlined the article). I didn’t think they had a chance to do anything here. Their first US hits were in 1964 and I’m glad I didn’t place any bets on my opinion. PS. The helped us get over the Kennedy assassination!
