In Navajo belief, the “holy breath,” or wind, is a sacred and vital force. It’s considered to be the means of life, animating people and guiding their lives. The concept of wind as a holy breeze is linked to conception and birth, with wind being given to a child at birth to guide their life.

Here’s a more detailed look:

The Navajo word for wind, “nilch’i,” also translates to “holy wind” and is considered the means of life.

  • Life Force:

Wind is believed to be the force that allows people to breathe and stand erect. It’s given to a child at conception and birth to guide their life.

  • Benevolent Deities:

Wind is also seen as benevolent deities who offer advice and guidance, especially in times of danger.

  • Connection to Nature:

The belief in holy wind emphasizes the close connection between individuals and the natural world, with the understanding that a person’s actions and thoughts are not just their own but also belong to the holy air.

  • Wind as a Messenger:

Wind is also seen as a messenger, communicating between the world of humans and the supernatural realm.

  • Rituals and Practices:

Navajo rituals often incorporate wind and breath, such as in healing ceremonies where singers utilize chants to restore balance.

An example of a traditional 49 song. These are songs sung at the “after party” - after the pow wow where people hang out, party and hook up.

Heartbreaking and horrific. Not the first time Disney has pushed delusions onto children…

Didnt know about Black Hawk wars, or his fame afterwords. Visiting his park has been on my bucket list for a few years

Its my understanding is that the bluffs along the wisconsin mississippi river have about 1000 petroglyphs/ rock art. Not sure if its that high, but sounds like it was sacred land for many many generations.

Cool to see he was a red head

Nice of the military to name a helicopter after him
