Flying dreams stimulated by an immersive virtual reality task (Research Study)

Found this interesting research study in the latest edition of Consciousness and Cognition: Gonna try it tonight or tomorrow. Actually, there are several good studies in this issue and I’m going to check back issues as well, just for kicks. Here’s the abstract:

Here’s the conclusion:

Not sure if you sent this to me, Barry, but if so , thank you…so awesome. Not sure if you’re into VR, but I just upgraded my oculus rift to a much higher resolution Valve Index. I use Microsoft flight sim in VR and fly low and slow in an ultralight and definitely feel like I’m flying…there’s a new Microsoft flight sim coming out next month that looks so incredible. I’m hoping , like this article mentions that it will totally effect my lucidity in dreams.
Cheers

I use Richie’s Plank Experience for flying. It has a couple of neat, if scary flight scenarios on one of the lower floors of the elevator. How did you “upgraded my oculus rift to a much higher resolution Valve Index?” Oh yeah, I have a Quest, so you’re into the tethered, big-time VR. Now I get it.

I also use “Tripp” a lot and they recently had a major upgrade to their Tripps, both in scope and VR experience. I’m no Flying Keys, In fact, I’m barely walking these days with sore achilles tendon, but I was in the Air Force and though not a pilot I used to have dreams for years that I was a pilot and regularly flew planes from one base to another. In fact, I remember sometimes questioning myself in the daytime to see whether or not I really was pilot. I recently remembered these dreams after focusing on flying in my nocturnal practices. The mind works in mysterious ways!

Thanks for the suggestions. I will have to check out Plank experience and Tripps. Yes, I went all the way with the VR equipment as I have been interested in that as long as in Lucid Dreaming, kind of connected. I will probably upgrade my pc to be able to handle the new Microsoft Flight sim with as high a visual quality as possible.
Thanks for your service in the Air Force. I have flown in a couple of small planes, where they let me take the controls, as well as a few helicopter rides and, as I said, I flew a paraglider for a year and stopped since I got worried about dying in an accident…lol That’s why VR and LD seems the “Safest way to fly”.
I hoping that the info I get on this site and more will finally get me regularly lucidity. Have a great Sunday

Me too. Depends what you mean by “regularly.”

OMG. I can’t tell you how happy you made me. I just tried “Richie’s Plank Experience” in the high speed mode, free flight. I had no idea you could almost get to the water and fly through the mountains and land on top of anything and then take off again…just like superman…
Maybe I don’t Lucid dreaming anymore…only kidding. But my biggest dream is to fly like Superman and at high speed free flight I felt like I did. It takes a while to get good with the turns, but eventually I was able to fly thru the buildings, land on top of one, and then (I probably looked like an idiot) I threw my hands out in front of me and almost hopped a step when I took off to fly. That is exactly one of the things I am hoping to do. It will even seem more real then.
Thanks SO very much. I don’t however seem to be able to find “Tripps”.
