I found this interesting movie on YouTube about Dogen, the Master who brought Zen to Japan. From the poster: A wonderful movie based on the real life Zen Master Dogen. He helped bring the true essence of Buddhism from China to Japan. Enjoy!!!
Thank you Barry! The movie about the Life of Zen Master Dogen-a wonderful offering!
Made him come alive for me. Similarly, Netflix used to have a series (54 episodes) about The Buddha, originally shown on Indian TV. Watching that series helped me to see him in a different way, more personal, more that just a statue.
I really like the beginning of the movie. Will let you know when I finish it.
Clicked to watch this movie and got sidetracked by a great title and the shortness of this suggested video . I thought she did a great job of bringing humor to the practice.
I remember watching this a few years ago. Love it. The teaching Dogen Zenji gave the woman who had just lost her child to go find a house where no one had died was a very beautiful and compassionate way to teach her about impermanence.
I also remember watching this 1950s movie about the life of Nichiren. Perhaps not as inspiring, but still interesting if you like learning about prominent Buddhists from Japan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdNci7nkCZM
This is brilliant. I love dharma teachers who have a lot of humor and like to laugh.
This echos a story of the Buddha.
