Yes indeed. I met her at a Singing Festival here in Washington State, many years ago when she was early 20’s and fresh out of music conservatory. I stayed up late into the night doing vocal jams with her and some of her friends. I remember hearing an early version of her “Machi” song that I posted. The last I heard she was living in the Ashland, OR area. Lately she’s been learning Gaelic songs from Ireland and Scotland. Here is one of these songs:

Yes most of the European and Indian languages are part of the Indo-European language family. But Gaelic may be closer than Sanskrit than others. I’m no linguist, so not sure. In 2007 I travelled through Wales and all of the signs there were in Welsh Gaelic. Crazy non-phoenetic spellings! I ended up at a party there where I met a Welsh woman who was working on keeping Welsh Gaelic alive. Scots Gaelic is pretty well extinct in Scotland but has been kept alive in Cape Breton Nova Scotia. I noticed that the Scots Gaelic song that Peia did was from Nova Scotia, according to the youtube notes.

Syncronicity, recently read that Mary Magdalen lived the rest of her older life in Wales.
What were you doing in Wales? Did you have a great time?

Scottish Gaelic is very much alive & spoken in Scotland.
In all the Hebrides Islands Gaelic is their 1st language
We also owed much promotion of Gaelic to the BBC TV Channel Alba (I’ve watched a lot in Gaelic) & local Radio. We have BBC Radio Scotland. Plus 3 x a day (1hr morning & lunch, then a longer evening) is handed over to all Scottish Island radio stations.

“Gaelic Medium Education is available in about 60 primary schools and their associated secondaries in Scotland, including dedicated Gaelic Medium schools. An increasing number of early learning and childcare centres, secondary schools and further education centres also provide learning through the medium of Gaelic.”
Nova Scotia is Latin for New Scotland. Interesting syncronicity, yesterday I watched a film called Healer, based in Nova Scotia.
Like the Irish during the famine the Scottish clans were band, & 'the clearances era forced 1,000 to America. Irish, Scottish & Wales continue to fight for independence, & keeping their language alive.
