Pure Lands 2024, Practices, Experiences and Mistakes

Oh, that’s interesting - four lines! I am aware of two when singing or reciting (and practicing to bring my attention back ) - maybe three…?
And since AH spoke so much about distraction I am noticing now much more during the day, how easily I get distracted, hence practicing to bring back the attention. I don’t remember who said that, but it’s definitely true: “It takes a lot of effort to get to the effortless state”.

that’s why we doing it together, is much better! it sure is a lot more fun :dolphin:

AH also spoke about acceptance  and having fun with these things we observe! I have pre-ordered his new book to be out in August “I’m Mindful, now what?” and I think this will also be addressed there: how we can make the most of all that we are, and bring it into this world.

We have so much more than four lanes… remember that AH also spoke about this? How the information of what’s going on is so much more than what we can grasp, thanks to our filters?
As I was writing now, I was reminded of this movie (check after minute 9:36 for this specific subject) that I loved watching back in 2005, but it’s still so relevant:

(it has Portuguese subtitles because I wasn’t able to find the original full movie available on Youtube)

@NightHawk999 did you see this movie yet? if not, I highly recommend it. think you’re gonna LOVE it.

Ha! I think you are very sensitive and intuitive…“doing it together…acceptance…” - you picked up where my difficulties lie, particularly the acceptance and self-compassion part. Hm.

Re the Bleep movie/docu you attached…: can’t open it here (in NZ) either, but I remember it from the past. It did not really resonate with me. But I understand the idea of bringing into this life all we are, instead of keeping it narrowed down to one or two lines due to our filters. The latest interview with Bernardo Kastrup was also in this regard spot on - I listened to it while walking my dog and almost jumped into the air experiencing so much joy.

Beloved Michelle… the magic effect of doing this together is to find out we all struggle with this… it’s part of being human!

this feels so great! haven’t seen it yet, but you are inspiring me to watch it!.. thank you.

oohh…
@_Barry , did a research on youtube with “What the bleep do we know USA” and found this with poor quality…

in this one the reference I did before:

is in minute 6:13. the resolution is very low but you can hear it very well.
perhaps you can access this one @Michele1 also because I searched on youtube for “What the bleep do we know New Zealand” and… it was the same :brown_heart:
I was in Auckland a few years ago… I LOVED it! what a grate place to live in. I have read an article a few months ago about an experiment being done in New Zealand with free electricity (no cables)! Do you know anything about that? Found the article:

this is fascinating to me! :dolphin:
I was also very impressed a few months ago to discover a video about a singing parliament activity from a young politician that inspired me deeply:

also this article inspired me so much!

Is New Zealand Buddhist? hihihi :cowboy_hat_face:

yes, I also prefer this.

yes :dolphin:

I recognize all sentient beings with deep respect, which doesn’t mean that I’m a vegetarian. I eat meat when I feel and fish very often. In deep gratitude for their offer. I had my period of being a vegan and I was SO miserable… it took me two or three years to realize that and change again. Also my blood type is very happy to eat meat.

when you find it, could you please share it here? :pray:t3:

Blessings Dear, Blessings Dear!
Oh, I did not take the time yet to answer…busy life! So, back now…
NZ has indeed more sheep than humans roaming this place (islands) and they - the humans, not the sheep, haha - are far away from embracing all sentient beings in a humane way - the economy is very much based on sheep and farming in general. There are positive moves though, like last year NZ enacted a world-leading ban on live export of animals by sea, one of the cruelest ways of transporting animals anyway. But in general, the ‘kiwis’ ideosyncracy is wrapped around rugby, beer and BBQ - very basic. It’s a young country that is still paying for imposing colonisation on māoris, the original culture of NZ.
I am originally from Argentina, left at 21 to study and live in Germany and after twenty years followed my New Zealand teacher to NZ. Not anymore in his sangha, but living in a small township in the South Island and loving it here. Glad there is internet and I can be connected to the rest of the world - like Andrew & Co.

Do you know what species of plant this is to the left?

Looks similar to the Agave we have in the Americas:

That plant is the common flax (harakeke). There is another one named mountain flax (wharariki). Māoris used to make baskets, etc. with them.
The flowers’ nectar attract many beautiful birds like Tui, bellbirds/ korimako, saddlebacks/tīeke, short tailed bats/pekapeka, geckos and several types of insects.

Unfortunately, with colonization by the British in the 18hundreds what also started was the deforestation - these days just 25% of beech and other forests remaining in NZ, which has become since a farming nation with 25 million sheep, 6 million cows, etc.
Ahimsa is not exactly a lived reality in this country.
