Andrew’s book Dreams of Light, and his frequent riff of the wonders of the dark both crossed my mind when I read this article below. I love a good night sky and am glad to see that many people consider it a resource worth saving.

Loved this reply at the end of the article:

“Space was the wrong name. Old thinkers had been wiser when they named it simply the heavens —
the heavens which declared the glory,
‘the happy climes that ly /
Where day never shuts his eye /
Up in the broad fields of the sky.’”

Yes indeed. My wife teaches a Summer quarter Astronomy course at a State College and she takes her class down to the Oregon Star Party near Prineville, OR (part of this dark sky preserve).

Love to know what are her favorite things to see in the night sky with the naked eye?
What are her favorite things to view with a pair of binocculars? A telocope?
I will never forget the first time I saw jupiter and saturn through a generois strangers telescope.
