Thought it was a great book. The way I was listening to it really vibed with Zen and some of it had Buddhist themes hidden between the lines which made the listen even more enjoyable.
A Psalm of Life
BY [HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW]
What The Heart Of The Young Man Said To The Psalmist.
Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.
Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.
Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
Is our destined end or way;
But to act, that each to-morrow
Find us farther than to-day.
Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
And our hearts, though stout and brave,
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
Funeral marches to the grave.
In the world’s broad field of battle,
In the bivouac of Life,
Be not like dumb, driven cattle!
Be a hero in the strife!
Trust no Future, howe’er pleasant!
Let the dead Past bury its dead!
Act,— act in the living Present!
Heart within, and God o’erhead!
Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time;
Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing o’er life’s solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again.
Let us, then, be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait.
Stole this video for @KhyungMar , I absolutely LOVE it! A true work of art:
SPECTACULAR (birdman?):
Really cool:
“hold on to your butts”:
(reminds me of Lord of the Rings)

Now I am quietly waiting for
the catastrophe of my personality
to seem beautiful again,
and interesting, and modern.
The country is grey and
brown and white in trees,
snows and skies of laughter
always diminishing, less funny
not just darker, not just grey.
It may be the coldest day of
the year, what does he think of
that? I mean, what do I? And if I do,
perhaps I am myself again."
Excellent show, Treat Williams was particularly good as “The Dad” in it. A lead character, teenager Ephram Brown, was asked to write about his fatal flaw in a high school essay. This is what he wrote:
The visualizations have particular potency in the practice of Tumo breathing and inner fire generation.
Get it first hand from THE teacher, DECEMBER 06 - DECEMBER 10, 2023
Please note that while traditional teachings and techniques will be introduced and may be practiced using visualization, no physical sexual practices will take place during this retreat. Dr. Nida’s book, Karmamudra: The Yoga of Bliss (Sky Press) is excellent source material to prepare for the retreat, though it is not required.
Just some thoughts after reading to share. Looks like an excellent & rare opportunity!
“used by highly advanced creation and perfection stage”
“Dr. Nida is both an advanced Great Perfection teacher”
A Dzogchen teacher excellent!
“Dr. Thurman works with the Dr. Nida to contextualize the instructions and meditations on the all-enabling ground of voidness or emptiness within the general path of renunciation, compassion, and wisdom, following the Dalai Lama’s style of explanation…”
Note renunciation would be HH Dalai Lama way, but here it suggests a way round that.
“Aiming to inform and empower, Dr. Nida offers these rarely taught practices in order to clear away common misconceptions and offer vital context and instructions”
“Please note, that while traditional teachings and techniques will be introduced and may be practiced using visualization, no physical sexual practices will take place during this retreat.”
May be practiced using visualization, if this happens i believe in asking permission from the character you use.
“Death is lonely in company.
He is always the unwanted guest.
The party stops when he comes in.
Bubbles go flat, petals drop from the flowers,
pink leaves the cheeks under any amount of rouge.
People don’t see his good side.
They see the skull without the skin.
They see teeth and tusks and sickles.
They taste metal and smell decay.
So he dresses up to meet awful expectations.
Death needs a friend who can see beyond the masks.
I think his friend is the dreamer.”
