Craving for dream and sleep improvement

I agree 100% with you. Thanks for your effort. Its all really challenging. Long ago a Lama made a ritual for my sleep. Also other treatments. But the effects are always very short. One has to realize it by oneself  Dzogchen i did not till now

From a Nyingma perspective, ghosts can be “real” too. A few years ago, after visiting my late brother’s body in the hospital, my wife, a Tibetan Buddhist, informed me an entity had attached himself to me and came home with us. As she told me this I was pushed down the stairs and hit my head on a table. She quickly did a procedure sending it away. I don’t know much about these things except though a few experiences.

Lucy,

Please take any advice I give on this topic with a huge grain of salt and lots of skepticism. I am very new to the lucid dreaming community and do not have much experience. The tips that @KhyungMar and @_Barry and @mbready gave are very good ones, and they are much more experienced than I am.

&

This is a very important clue.
Is this Bedroom the same bedroom you have had for the last 22 years?(since the dreams started?)
Or have you had Ghost dreams in different beds and or bedrooms?
Is the bed the same, or box spring, blanket, etc. Or have they all changed over the years?

I believe that a ritual performed by a qualified specialist is definitely a good idea, like the other members mentioned. I also believe finding a Psychic who has a proven track record of results may help you verify if these are indeed Dead Spirits who are hanging around or if they are more a part of your Psyche and trying to communicate messages to you unconsciously. Or BOTH?

if the latter is the case, here is my take on the dreams you described:

All these dreams have a few things in common:

  1. Negative emotions (fear, panic, anxiety, etc.)
  2. Pain
  3. HELPLESSNESS - you are passively being abused physically by these beings
  4. Physical violence
  5. External forces/entities- who are causing you harm (sadistic motives)

This may be way too personal of a question to ask you, so please do not respond if you do not feel comfortable answering it:
Have you ever been a victim of Domestic abuse?
Have you every been a victim of Sexual abuse?
Have you experienced physical trauma at the hands of people in your wake life?

if the answer is no to those questions, the dream may be trying to communicate to you in a more metaphorical way:

Are there instances in your wake life where you feel helpless?
Do you let people take control of you, not voicing your opinions?
Do you feel a lack of Freedom or choice in your life?
How often do you feel Fear?
How often do you feel out of control in your environment?
Do you have things from your past that you have not come to terms with that you feel are nagging at you or ‘haunting’ you?
Are you at peace in your life?

This is very powerful.
I love that once you left the room and house and flew around you had new freedom, and the ghosts seemed to become more friendly rather than monsters.

Is there any time in your younger years that you remember being in a dark area or closed room? Or in your adult life?
Feeling being trapped?

if not this could be a metaphor as well.
Possibly that the Ghosts are your guides to helping you find peace and illuminating the darkness of your past.

Andrew has used the term Spiritual Warrior many times, and I agree with him 100%. It takes a great deal of courage and strength to make peace with the subconscious and our karma.

I am very inspired by you. I am also a little jealous, because you have re-occurring dreams that prompt lucidity. This is Step 1 of Andrews 9 steps in Dream Yoga practice. (he has videos of the steps in the Webinar section)

Maybe friendship is not their agenda. (but that does not mean they are your enemies)
Approaching them with Love, respect, COMPASSION, and Openness, (rather than fear. panic, anger, or negative emptions), may help prompt more dreams of illumination and insight.

In the future when they appear. and you become lucid, try flying out of the house and into the sky with them. It seems like a great deal of the negative dreams are taking place inside your bedroom or house. Fly away from it, and then, let them guide you to a different location. Maybe one out in Nature?

You may also say to yourself (and truly believe )that the new location they are taking you too will provide deeper answers to who these Ghosts are and more clarity to the message they are trying to send you.

COMPASSION is very very important. There are so many millions of children in this world that are suffering horrible abuses, war, sexual slavery, illness, deep poverty, and their worlds are filled with so much darkness.

The more we all practice this sacred art and do good deeds the more we can hopefully end these horrible atrocities in the world.

Thank you so much for sharing. I hope you continue to share more of the Ghost dreams you have had.

I also believe that you are going to find a solution to this problem, but it may take time. Don’t give up. Continue your inquiry and keep an open mind. By overcoming this obstacle you will be able to help others in the future with similar problems.

Wishing you all the best.

I would be very interested in knowing exactly what these Ghosts look like?

Can you provide a more detailed description of their forms?

Have you ever drawn pictures of them?

Are there any pictures on the internet that you have found that look similar to them?

Dear Barry,
this experience i had also 1983/1984. I made another spiritual path since 1982. With Sant Thakar Singh meditation on inner light and sound. I practiced extremly intense and was very euphoric. Heaven. Then it changed to hell like. It was like captured from negativ energy, the devil without form.I felt this demonic possession like in christian movies. The psychiatrists diagnosed a psychosis. It lead me in dark areas i didn’t want.

Dear NightHawk999,
i found no pictures in internet. They are like very fat old monster, adipose with slabby formless fat around the huge belly and extremly short legs and arms. But with very long nails. Human nails. Magicians have so extremly long nails sometimes in cartoons. Or they look normal like good looking man. Or i don’t see them, only the results
One time it was a predator, that bite in
my vein and the blood shot out widely

Lucy, I have no experience in therapy or psychology. Andrew talks about Western “science” and how it can augment spiritual practice. His neighbor, Bruce Tift, a psychotherapist does work in this area.

Dear NightHawk999,
thank you for your long questions. Maybe i can today only respond to a part. I started the spiritual path, because i thought it can’t continue like this in the world and i wanted to do something to help people in great need.
The questions are all the case, more or less. The ghost dreams became so often and intense, since l made dream yoga 2008. Since this time it happened all in the same bed and bedroom, till now. But if i make no dream or sleep practice, also the lucid and ghost dreams are much less. But both are in relation to normal dreams only very few. So, its only beginning, i hope. First i must be able to sleep anyhow.
I think its both, maybe real ghosts and psychic metaphoric. If there are real ghosts, they still have to do with my state of mind. If i would have not this psychic patterns, nothing would happen. The ghost dreams before were in other circumstances, but very few.
I think, this ghost dreams are very important for healing. Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche told often, that he got the question “why i have this recurrent dreams?” Because you don’t listen to it.
But its not so easy. Till the lucid dream with the opening wall, i waited for improvement outside, but it didn’t happen. Its very long ago. Something changed somehow, some became better, some worse.
I thought the same, fly with the ghosts in better areas.
This was the topic in my second lucid dream in my early twentieth . The ghost pulled me out of body and i was overhappy, i am free. And i started a long run to the highest and best levels and areas. I run and run and run to best like bhumies. But i never reached them, of course. Then i was in a rosengarden and then back in my body. After beeing back, i grasped the wrong attitude, which could not work, of course.

Are you taking any medications that might be interferring with your sleep or dreams. Not sure on the side effects.

This is very good advice. Having a psychologist or therapist to talk to about your life and give techniques for improvement would be a great asset, and greatly help your spiritual path.

&

I think it is Both too. Yes I believe your state of mind can make you much more succeptible to ghosts or evil spirits, but as you improve it, you will become more resilient.

I think a collective approach would be very helpful. Finding a good therapist or psychologist to talk about past and current issues. Finding a good spiritual leader to help perform a ritual. And engaging with as many resources as possible to learn new techniques and coping strategies.

Hit this problem from as many different angles as possible.

And if you can make it out of the woods alive, you will have learned and developed new tools and weapons that can help many others in the future.

The fact that you are having some very very positive dream experiences in addition to the Nightmarish ones, makes me believe that you are making progress.

Easier said than done. But I think he may be right.

Reoccurring dreams are trying to tell us something. But if we don’t listen, or interpret the message the wrong way, they will keep haunting us.

Dear NightHawk999,
its not a case of side effects from medicine. If i use psycho pills or sleeping pills, i can’t remember dreams. This is so sad, that i use as less as possible. Also all the therapy has some effects, but not enough for healthy life. Sadly the therapists are also overchallenged. But they can give me horrible diagnoses, so that i get pension

I don’t know, if this here is the right place to discuss it further. But tonight i had a similar dream: a group of researcher made a medicinal research with a group of prisoners. They got electrodes for set them under electricity. They choosed me and set me under electricity long time. My hand melted with my thigh by touching. But very subtle in the background i recognized the emptiness, refuge, clear light and relaxation behind the torture ??? After this i wrote a help seeking mail outside, but i was caught immediately. This would be punished for treason. Because of this, i thought it is maybe good to release this for ending??? There were intense energies all night long

that is a tough spot to be in. Sometimes the meds have worse side effects than the illness itself.

I am not sure either. Without knowing much about your background, or current life situation, the advice members give you on here may not be what is best for you.

It may help if you provide more information about what is currently going on. If you have time, answering as many of the questions here may give some clarification:

Dont give up on them. Sometimes it may take a lot of searching, but finding the right therapist could be a life saver for you. Not all therapists are the same, some are very good at what they do, and many are not. Do your research, and lots of searching.

Dear NightHawk999,
all is true more or less. But isn’t it all the same, why? The only questions is, if one is able to offer the ego/ body like in Chöd or emptiness or tonglen. Yesterday i made the Bön guided sleep Yoga practice and after half time i felt the ghost and horror atmosphere coming. I broke the practice off, because of fear. But i think, i will slowly try to open up to it. And exercise to let go my dreambody. Any dream or sleep practice trigger this . Of course it has to do with my life and also former lives. But this make no difference. If it go toooo far, i take the pills from my psychiatrist :bat:

I was looking through Andrew’s recorded webinar series and came across these two that may help you. I think you might have to be a member to view them though.

One addressing fear(very clear steps to address and overcome any fears you have- Andrew also says when you experience fear you should welcome it, it is a catalyst for spiritual growth)
https://nightclub.andrewholecek.com/courses/webinar-series/lessons/everything-you-need-to-know-to-transcend-fear-24/

One addressing bad dreams(have not listened to this one yet)
https://nightclub.andrewholecek.com/courses/webinar-series/lessons/mailbag-can-i-protect-myself-from-having-bad-dreams-29/

Sounds like you are making some progress. Keep at it. All things take time. Try your best to open to the fear and rise above it knowing the only way it can hurt you is if you reify it.

Hi Lucy,

just an idea: there is a Question and Answer session with Andrew which is free of charge.
If you wish to ask him about your situation, you could do it there.
Best regards

Listening to the 2nd webinar linked Andrew says in the Tibetian Book of the Dead it states that emptiness cannot harm emptiness. Therefore this entity appearing in your dream can only harm you because you reify it and give it the ability to harm you.

This seems like a direct answer to these issues you are experiencing. He also says dive into that fear and stay in it because the longer you stay in it the quicker you will dissolve this fear.

This is at the 20 minute mark in the video if you’d like to hear Andrew’s full explanation.

Dear mbready,
thanks for your hints. I will hear it. I made some time in lucid dreams the experience, that i can fly and fall an dissolve in light body and there is no danger at all. But with these topics of pain and attack, it is much more difficult. But with this support from this night club maybe i can get it :v: :ghost:

I am not sure what you are referring to exactly by this. can you be more specific?

The reason I asked so many questions, is because your history, and your current wake life circumstances will significantly influence the nature and context of your dreams.

If you spend time in your wake life afraid and living in fear, or have fearful reactions to stimuluses, that ‘HABIT’ will carry over into the dream world. When you are unconscious, the waking life Habits take over.

"I broke the practice off, because of fear. But i think, i will slowly try to open up to it. "

I get a sense that Fear is a very key theme in not just your dreams, but in your behaviors while awake.
If this is the case, I dont think there is a quick fix to this habitual response. But I do believe there are long term solutions, that will come if you continue to be disciplined and open minded.

What are some of your biggest fears in your life?

One wake life practice that may help you, if to write out a long exhaustive list of things that scare, frighten you, or cause you anxiety. Then rate them on a scale of 1, 2, or 3. With 1 being least fearful, and 3 being most fearful.

Then in a controlled enviornment confront your fears that are #1 level first (least fearful).

Say you have a minor fear of snakes. To overcome this fear, start small at the library, and open a book on snakes, or browse pictures of them on google images. As soon as you feel the fear rising in you, enter a meditative state, and see if you can slowly take the edge off, sitting with it, and bvecoming aware, will break some of its power over you.
Once you have done this conditioning practice enough, the pictures will become less and less fear inducing. When you get to a point that the response is nuetral, then you can move on to more realistic senarios:

  1. Go to a pet shop or zoo and visit the snake exibit. Reapeat the step above of becoming mindful, sitting with the fear, letting it dissipate, bringing your heartrate down, and doing relaxed breathing.

  2. Once you have mastered the above steps, then go to a pet shop or reptile expo, and try petting a snake, and then eventually letting it touch your body, or even holding one.

This is why the spiritual path is the path of the Warrior.
It is not easy, it is very very difficult.

With practice, your Fear may be a tool you can use to help ANCHOR you in presence.
Meaning as soon as you start to feel the fear rise in you, let that trigger Awareness within your mind “LUCY IS AFRAID RIGHT NOW” or 'LUCY IS SURROUNDED BY A CLOUD OF FEAR"
Saying this to yourself, coupled with visualizing yourself being afraid internally (visualize the thoughts and feelings) and externally, like you are watching a movie of you being afraid from OUTSIDE your body.
These practices will not cause the fear to vanish immediately, but they will cause a level of detachment from the emotion, which in turn, helps it weaken faster, or in the very least allows you to still function without being completely engulfed by it.
