at minute 34h44, there’s an excellent explanation of how the mind can afflict the body. (the cause of most self-immune diseases, and others)

These recordings covering a seven days retreat are a comprehensive teaching of shamata, vipashyana and dzogchen and their relevance to dream yoga.
A must view for buddhist dream yoga practioners.

@BlessingsDeers

For me, the course is a complete set of teachings starting from Shamata (what else, since this is B.Alan Wallace :slight_smile: ) over to Vipashyana and finally Dzogchen, all with the context of dream yoga practice.

Alan’s point of view is that without Shamata, Dzogchen-practice will be unstable, at best. So, he starts with the classic exercises of Shamata, as he has shared also in other courses and which are described in detail in “The Attention Revolution”.
Dream Yoga / Lucid dreaming will greatly benefit by the skills acquired while practicing Shamata, since we all aim to have stable dreams in which we become lucid.
Dream length is directly affected by the stability of the mind. What the mind gets used to during day practice, it can take into night practice.
With the practice of focusing on the “space of the mind”, one practices further to become aware of subtle mind phenomena (such as dreams) and prepares oneself for the night.

Apart from the usual practices aimed at becoming lucid during the day (dream recall improvement, intention, critical mindset of if one is dreaming, etc.) he continues on to explain the buddhist philosophical views of reality ( Sautrāntika, Cittamatra, etc.) and how these relate to how we experience reality.
It becomes clearer then why dream yoga is such a potent practice in order to ascertain a clear perception of reality, in theory.

He continues to introduce Vipashyana-practice of searching one’s mind, giving a taste of realising the emptiness of one’s dualistic mind.

Finally, he introduces the practice of cutting through to prestine awareness and resting in it, which is Dzogchen.
He explains how from the view of Dzogchen reality is indeed a dream, not just “like a dream”, as it would be for a mind still caught in dualism.
For a buddhist practicioner the course might answer many questions and has given me further insights to practices already known.
For a secular practicioner, it contains many guided meditations helping to induce lucid dreams and making them more vivid and stable.
