Golden Shadow

I’ve been working on my golden shadow as of late and was very surprised while reading ‘Dreaming Through Darkness’ how short the questions for the golden shadow were. Then how quickly the book moved onto another topic.

Questions:

“What things in life bring out the best in me?
If I didn’t need money and were following my bliss how would I spend my life?
Based on a playful amplification of my own personality, if I had one superpower, what would it be?
What things in life make my heart sing?
In what areas of life do 1 hide my light?
What do I want to be when I grow up?”

For the opening text in chapter two Charlie used Carl Jung’s quote “The truth of the matter is that the shadow is ninety percent pure gold.” Using this train of thought I’ve searched other resources to help me to uncover aspects of my golden shadow I’d like to begin working on.

Wanted to start a thread on this because if it is indeed ninenty percent of the shadow it warrants much further exploration and personally I found it harder to unconver aspects of my golden shadow I wanted to begin working on. If anyone has any other resources on the golden shadow feel free to share.

One note on my exploration of the golden shadow is that there are a lot of resouces that express how important it is to use visualization. I have aphantasia so while I was doing my exploration I have excluded these.

Some of the helpful starting points I have found so far (still working on it):

Self-Reflection: Take time for self-reflection and introspection. Consider the qualities, talents, or potentials that you admire in others or feel drawn to. Reflect on the activities or interests that bring you joy, fulfillment, and a sense of purpose. These can provide valuable clues to your golden shadow.

Seek Feedback: Reach out to trusted friends, family members, or mentors and ask for their observations and feedback regarding your strengths and positive qualities. Sometimes others can see our golden shadow more clearly than we can. Listen with an open mind and consider their perspectives.

Inner Child Work: Connect with your inner child, the part of you that embodies innocence, curiosity, and playfulness. Engage in activities that you enjoyed as a child or explore new hobbies that spark your interest. This can help you reconnect with forgotten passions and talents.

Engage in Childhood Activities: Reflect on the activities you loved as a child. These could include playing with toys, drawing, coloring, dancing, singing, building with blocks, or playing imaginary games. Choose one or more activities that resonate with you and that you feel drawn to in this moment.

Play and Explore: Engage in the chosen activity as if you were a child again. Let go of any self-consciousness or judgment. Allow yourself to fully immerse in the experience, embracing the curiosity and playfulness of your inner child. Give yourself permission to be creative and spontaneous.

Games and Playfulness: Engage in games and activities that bring out your sense of play. Play board games, card games, or outdoor games like tag or hide-and-seek. Embrace the competitive spirit or simply enjoy the laughter and camaraderie that comes with playing.

Explore Nature: Spend time outdoors in natural settings like parks, forests, or beaches. Explore your surroundings. Engage in activities such as collecting natural objects, or simply lying on the grass and watching the clouds. Allow yourself to be fully present in the moment, observing the beauty of nature and embracing the sense of wonder that comes with it.

Creative Expression: Engage in creative outlets such as art, music, writing, or dancing. Allow yourself to freely express your emotions, thoughts, and ideas through these mediums. Creativity often unveils hidden aspects of ourselves and can serve as a gateway to accessing the golden shadow.

Listening and Enjoying Music: Music has the power to evoke emotions and inspire us. Actively listening to and enjoying music can be a valuable part of engaging with the golden shadow. Pay attention to the music that resonates with you, whether it’s a specific genre, artist, or song. Notice how different melodies or lyrics make you feel and reflect on the qualities they evoke within you.

Creative Writing: Engage in creative writing exercises such as short stories, poetry, or personal essays. Use your imagination to create characters, narratives, or worlds. This form of writing allows you to delve into your inner landscape and explore different aspects of yourself through storytelling.

Stream of Consciousness Writing: Set aside time for stream of consciousness writing, where you simply let your thoughts flow onto the paper without censoring or editing. This can be a powerful tool for accessing hidden thoughts, emotions, and ideas that may be connected to your golden shadow.

Art Generation with AI: AI-generated art can be an outlet for creative expression and exploring the golden shadow. Using AI tools to create art can be an innovative way to tap into your creativity, especially if you enjoy working with technology. Experiment with AI-generated art platforms or software, and see how they inspire you to explore new ideas, styles, or forms of expression. Remember to engage with the process mindfully and infuse your personal intentions and emotions into the art you create.

Integration: Once you’ve identified and acknowledged your golden shadow, focus on integrating these qualities into your daily life. Embrace opportunities that allow you to express and utilize these positive aspects. Actively seek out situations and relationships that align with your authentic self and reflect your golden shadow.

I think these 3 are very powerful as well. Building new things is helpful too.

Earlier today my wife and I went to the creek by our house to let the dogs go swimming and I felt inspired to indirectly work on my golden shadow by combining the two categories “Play and Explore” and “Explore Nature”.

The bridge had a very stagnated section because the water level is pretty low there. Lots of bugs in the pools and it is right next to where my wife and I think a frequent camper spends time with his German Shepard. Also I’d imagine it can be a hang out spot sometimes based on the trash we collected.

So I thought it was a good opportunity to do something I always enjoyed as a child. Playing in the creek and looking for crayfish and frogs :frog:. At the same time I’d be helping out with bug control in the area for the campers. I dug some small channels with a stick and had a blast.

While I was doing this I kept coming across cool little trinkets. Then, right at the end, the last part I was opening was a huge rock as I started digging to open the channel I saw quartz on it. Kept digging and was filled with a rush, saw a rock with tons of quartz on it. We have the same rocks around our house but the biggest I’ve been able to find is about 2.5 inches in diameter or so

Check it out!

Then I went over to my wife who was playing with the puppies and she showed me the campsite and some really cool artwork some one just did.

The synchronicities were through the roof. Hearts in the eyes. Taking out the trash and I even found golf balls in the creek. One of them had a geometric design which was another cool synchronicity.

I have to say, the golden shadow is a lot more enjoyable to work with then the dark shadow.:alien::frog:

Here is the waterflow I added to the stagnated water pools. I opened it up more after this but forgot to take another video. :man_shrugging:

Oh yes! I almost forgot to mention I saw 5 little salamanders

Quartz was sacred to many of the native american tribes. One site I visited, there was a turtle shell shaker filled with quartz rocks and thought to belong to medicine man.

have you done any camping? I use a hammock, to get off the ground . Bugs are bad this time of year, but nights are beautiiful.

Reminds me of an archeological dig I went on in grad school. I paid $25 to sit in the sun and use a trowel to sift through dirt in a Long Island backyard, looking for artifacts that would indicate certain Native American activities in the area. After some time I found a quartz knife and maybe some arrowheads, all property of the local museum. Exciting yes, but as boring and un-Indiana Jones as can be.

The creek I grew up playing in was old Native American lands that had buildings placed on them. Maybe they rubbed off on me a little, I love finding quartz. Every time I dig around house I check the stones to see if it is quartz. Have Cherokee Indian on my dad’s side and Black Foot Indian on my mom’s side though you’d never know by looking at me and I don’t often say it because I’ve never practiced. Always had an admiration for their beliefs though.

Nope, hiking though. For camping I live vicariously through these two YouTubers.

Sounds interesting.

Glad the museum got to keep all the finds. Its good to document history, easy to get lost in time. My wife did an article for the local historical society on our home for that and various other reasons. We had a lot of information about the place because my step-father’s side had owned it for over 100 years. It was originally a hotel and it has a lot of other history too. One of the more interesting things is they had a performing bear at one point to draw people into the bar that was in the basement.

That is very significant! Robert Waggoner mentions sacred sites as being powerful stimulants for lucid dreams. (i think they can impact all types of dreams, not just lucid ones)

No doubt in my mind. I think being tied to the natives by blood helps as well.

I was told by a wise Cherokee man that when he prays, first he gives thanks to the Great Spirit, then he gives thanks to the Ancestors who came before, then for the tribe and nature.

I will never forget that conversation. He also told me about the Sun Dance Festival, and how it was 2 days of intensive worship via dancing under the sun all day long with no food or water or rest, and an open wound close to the heart. (Not to be confused with the film festival).

I was in awe of that level of devovation.

If you like hiking and day trips, would highly recommend this:

I buy these Equip hammocks from walmart for about $40, cheaper ones can be found on amazon without bug net for $15-20.

If you are spending a full or half day out in nature, having something to sit and rest on, or lay down on, can really help recharge your battery.

https://www.amazon.com/pys-Hammock-Combined-Lightweight-Hammocks/dp/B01MRSN2VL/ref=asc_df_B076MTXFFX/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=242019950821&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3530507694801699984&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9021698&hvtargid=pla-398886693747&th=1

With these loop straps, you can have the hammock set up in under 2-3min. Lasso one tree trunk with a rope, then do it again with the other rope, then connect the rope ends to hammock ends with the caribeaners provided.

Will never go back to sleeping in a tent. I sleep the deepest in Hammocks, and there is no morning back pain that accompanies tent camping and ground sleeping.

I’ve been putting a lot of time into this one. Been on vacation from work for most of the week and I chose this as one of my ways to work on the “golden shadow”. Wanted to share some of my favorites from the last couple of days.

Had a lot of fun relaxing and making these. Used Firefly (https://firefly.adobe.com/) and the latest version of stable diffusion (Clipdrop - Stable Diffusion). Both of them are free.

Click here to see the images. I didn't want to have this many loading on the main thread unless it was clicked.

I used the same exact prompt on Firefly as I did stable diffusion. You can see some of the differences between the two in these pictures.

Not sure. I narrowed the results down from so many I liked that I pretty much like all the ones I added here in there own way. I think this is a great way to try to inject creavity into my life. I am a very laid back person so listening to music and doing the this kind of art is a fun way to work on something I normally wouldn’t do.

I’d say on average I spent 20-25 minutes finding each picture. They were all the same prompt (peaceful, happy, Delicate circuitry forms a luminous face, harmonizing technology and humanity in a captivating, symmetrical composition.) Except this one (peaceful happy alien made of pure white radiating light wearing red velvety robes) :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::
