The Mul Mantra is a foundational Sikh mantra, often considered the root mantra of Sikhism. ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
Transliteration:
Ik Onkar, Sat Naam, Karta Purakh, Nirbhau, Nirvair, Akaal Moorat, Ajooni, Saibhang, Gur Prasad.
Translation and meaning:
- Ik Onkar: There is only one God.
- Sat Naam: His name is Truth.
- Karta Purakh: He is the Creator.
- Nirbhau: He is without fear.
- Nirvair: He is without hate.
- Akaal Moorat: He is beyond time (immortal).
- Ajooni: He is beyond birth and death.
- Saibhang: He is self-existent.
- Gur Prasad: He is realized by the grace of the Guru.
