Tom Petty American Girl

Silence of the Lambs kind of ruined this song for me :unamused:

Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers - Runnin’ Down A Dream

"I’m runnin’ down a dream
That never would come to me
Workin’ on a mystery, goin’ wherever it leads
Runnin’ down a dream
"

Sounds like TP may be a Buddhist…

Back in 1967 free speech wasn’t officially disapproved or called disinformation and cancelled—during the height of the Vietnam war it took guts for the Smothers Brothers to sing this on prime time TV, with over half million troops in Southeast Asia and more being drafted monthly. (Also, see Alice’s Restaurant).

I used to watch the Smothers Brothers when I was in Junior High School in the late 60’s. I loved that they were against the war. My father hated them and didn’t like their politics. I remember arguing with him about the war, even at that age. I was wearing a peace symbol around my neck and hippie beads at Junior High lol. I was absolutely determined that I wouldn’t go to Vietnam.

In the '50s that was the ā€œBan the Bombā€ sign, morphed into the Peace sign along with the :v: in the '60s.

This 60s song by CCR seems particularly appropriate today:
