The Breath of Christ
another precious sound gift from you… infinite gratitude.
yes! so good to be alive! delightful sax!
Amen!
One cool thing about For King and Country is that they use harmoniums in their songs. You can see Joel playing one in this song:
That made me happy when I saw that. Christian music needs more harmonium.
I’m a language nerd, what can I say?
The original version of “Rivers of Babylon” by the Melodians from 1970.
I first heard the song from Linda Ronstadt when I was in college in the 70’s.
Probably the most popular “disco” tune in the clubs of Southeast Asia the 1970s . . .
@_Barry
“Rivers of Babylon” as a Southeast Asian disco tune?!
They probably had no idea what it meant!
Was this the Melodian’s version or the Linda Ronstadt version?
Boney’s and traveling Filipino bands who were the best imitators of popular music I’ve ever hear.
It’s a catchy tune with a dance-able rhythm. No clue that it’s an ancient Hebrew lament about being carried off as slaves by the Babylonians. But I’m sure that the Jamaicans got the slavery reference.
It’s in the old testament. Also the source for this tune by the Byrds
Another goodie, but not from either Testament, I think . . .
Yeah this is the original, much less well known I think. Uses more Rastafari language like “King Alpha” and “Far-I” which are both references to Haile Selassie. The Boney M version found substitutes for those terms. The song is a mishmash of Psalm 137 and Psalm 19.
Yes. Ecclesiastes 3. Great song.
Yeah, in Rasta lingo “Babylon” means the whole western capitalist system that exploits and enslaves.
With an assist from King Solomon . . . .
@_Barry. Yeah I hear that King Solomon was a real wise guy!
He could cut through any dispute and get at the truth. We could use a guy like that today.
Wise junk food? Seems like an oxymoron to me!
Maybe that is what they feed owls?
