@Athernium. To quote Edie Brickel “Philosophy is a walk on slippery rocks,”

Whenever I’m asked if I believe in God, I reply that “it depends on what you mean by God. Do you mean that big guy who lives up in the sky and sits on a throne and judges us? If so, no I don’t believe in God.”
If by ‘God’ you mean the “Ground of Being”, a field of pure empty/fullness and deep inter-dependence and compassion, then yes, I believe in that." I think that the “God” word it deeply problematic so I prefer not to use it. I prefer “Ground of Being,” “the Tao,” “Great Mystery” or “Buddha-mind.”

Re: cursive handwriting . . . in 2010 and 2011 I was invited to attend some UNESCO bioethics conferences in Japan (both environmental and medical ethics - I was presenting on process-oriented ecopsychology). and I was taking notes in cursive handwriting as I can write much faster in cursive. Later some Japanese friends asked me if I knew how to write shorthand. In Japan everyone studies English in school but they only learned how to print. They had never learned to write in cursive and they were blown away with how fast I could write in cursive. My cursive was not as beautiful as this girl’s writing, however, but it was fast! It definitely is a dying art and now everyone is writing on their phones and computers. At conferences now it seems most people are taking notes that way.

When I visited Japan, I hiked through bamboo forests similar to this. This was in Kyushu, Southern Japan. Amazing!

Amen Brother!
Did not realize they got so big. Really Beautiful!

On Naked and afraid have seen survivalists cut bamboo down for the fresh clean drinking water stored inside the ‘pod’ segments.

I had heard of it. I’ve heard that there are professional huggers/cuddlers in America. Here it’s usually someone of the same gender.
Japan is a very respectful culture where people follow the rules, so there is less chance that things would get out of control or people would get violated.

Some things I observed in Japan:
Fruit stands left unattended while the person running the stand left for a break. A basket is left out for people to put money in and the basket is sitting there full of money unattended. Anyone could take the money or the fruit, but no one does.
I also went into shops where the owners left for lunch. The store is left completely open and unattended and nothing is stolen.
When I mentioned to my Japanese friends that in America, we would never do that because people would steal things or steal money, I would see them blush. The very thought of that felt shameful.
There is a very low crime rate in Japan and there are very few guns. I think the influence of Buddhism has created a culture with a very high ethic based on caring for others.
