Paul Simon was told in a dream to create an album of “Psalms.” He didn’t quite know what that meant, but he downloaded some parts of these Psalms in dreams and began to write and record them at the age of 81. This short documentary is about all of this:
In this interview he gives a more detailed description of all of this and it also has an interesting account of how he & Garfunkel went from unknowns to stars almost overnight. He also mentions that he went deaf in his left ear during the production of this album. Quite a loss for a musician!
Here’s the album. Pure musical and poetic brilliance! His acoustic fingerpicking is still right up there with the best and he maintains his angelic voice pretty well:
