Not sure if the article mentions this or not, but the Greeks and Romans believed certain pure souls could drink from the river Lethe in Elyssium, and be reborn again in human form.
I learned this year from @Bucket that Jesus and many of the people of his time most likely believed in reincarnation, or the souls ability to be reborn. I think around 400Ad or 500 AD, christian leaders got together and removed the teaching of reincarnation from their dogmas. It lost by only 1 vote!
