Because ive only followed Tibetan Buddhism properly (although my 1st taste was Upanishads) i didnt know about this you train in. I had to look it up. Would you say @carlmorton1970 this below sums it up?
Patanjali’s teachings help us to understand how our thoughts get in the way of our own happiness. They also show that the process of “disidentification” with our thoughts, aided by yoga practices, is the path to ending suffering.
Sankhya is a dualistic orthodox school of Hindu philosophy. It views reality as composed of two independent principles, Puruṣa and Prakṛti. Puruṣa is the witness-consciousness. It is absolute, independent, free, beyond perception, above any experience by mind or senses, and impossible to describe in words.
Sankhya does not accept the theory of rebirth or transmigration of soul. Sankhya holds that it is the self-knowledge that leads to liberation and not any exterior influence or agent.
