[ Death 💀 ]

SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK

@BlessingsDeers
you might like this one as well, its pretty wacky, but I think Kaufman is a genius.

hmmmm… the mind was rejecting it… but one synch is saying that perhaps I could give it a try… let’s see! :pray:t3: I feel it can strengthen my compassion… :rose:

Agreed. Kaufman said he was trying to weite a horror film disguised as a drama. But I do think he throws in some important Buddhist lessons for the attentive viewer. Of his 3 best movies this one would be 3rd, Adaptation would be 2nd.

Go with your gut, its dark, sad, and a little twisted, but really funny at parts. Check out Adaptation and Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind first. If you like those, you might like this one, but be prepared to either be very disappointed, or very impressed by his creativity.

The Genius of Synecdoche, New York (Part 1)

Yes, @BlessingsDeers it is very depressing.

If you watch the analysis above you will see the Devil is in the details, a lot of thought went into this film, not your typical Hero’s journey hollywood film.

The fate of his daughter was just too much for me to take when I saw it several years ago. I’d rather view more transformative uplifting movies at this time in my life such as the two below.

Yeah there were some real ball busting moments in that film that were painful to sit through.

The movies you listed look really good.

I have not seen this one by Kaufman, have you? The reviews look decent:

This film was recommended recently in Andrew’s preparing to die program by Chelsea:

You can watch a premiere here:

The one I watched was free but it is worth the $10 IMO.

For Whom the Bell Tolls
byJohn Donne

No man is an island,
Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thine own
Or of thine friend’s were.
Each man’s death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.

I am SO happy that after living 50 years in this body I have finally come to appreciate Shakespeare…
and understand…

“Full fathom five thy father lies;
Of his bones are coral made;
Those are pearls that were eyes;
Nothing of him that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea change
Into something rich and strange.”

lie?

here’s another one that I LOVE from Rumi:

“Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes.
Because for those who love with their heart and soul
there is no separation.”

this one comes from one of my favourite books and it’s simply… beautiful:

"Then Almitra spoke, saying, We would ask now of Death.

And he said:
You would know the secret of death.
But how shall you find it unless you seek in the heart of life?
The owl whose night-bound eyes are blind unto the day cannot unveil the mystery of light.
If you would indeed behold the spirit of death, open your heart wide unto the body of life.
For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one.
In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your silent knowledge of the beyond;

And like seeds dreaming beneath the snow your heart dreams of spring.
Trust the dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.
Your fear of death is but the trembling of the shepherd when he stands before the king whose hand is to be laid upon him in honour.
Is the shepherd not joyful beneath his trembling, that he shall wear the mark of the king?
Yet is he not more mindful of his trembling?

For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and melt into the sun?
And what is it to create breathing but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?

Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance."
