🕊 Expressions of Silence or Solitude

You’re so right!
My fridge makes a noise too. Sometimes i seitch that off as its so cold in my house i think i dont need a fridge

Thats such a great place to have that option. A nice touch to have books at hand too.

I live on a small remote Scottish Island. The wind can be noisy and the cows in the next field sometimes.

Yes about the refrigerator! The place I used to live had a bit of an unstable power grid and the electricity would cut out in our neighborhood an awful lot. Secretly I liked it- it got so quiet in just a moment. I would realize how much background noise the fridge made. I couldn’t keep it off all the time and I never unplugged it on purpose, but I was thinking about the noisy fridge when I wrote that about technology :joy:

Interesting how silence is so conducive to sleep, and altered states of mind. The sound or vibration that is most harmonious with God and the universe.

I sleep with silacone putty ear plugs, and if I want to get more quiet, I add the gun earmuffs people wear at shooting ranges. Still not 100% effective, and looks rediculous, and its not very comfortable.

I wish there were products on the market that were more effective at getting pure silence. I can see why that would be a liability nightmare though. :upside_down_face:

In silence and solitude…

Warm & cozy on the porch watching snow falling.

Listening to the sea and watching for shooting stars.

YES!

Equally as serene, dressing like an Eskimo, layered up, and walking at night in the woods with the snow falling and no breeze. Couldnt find a video that does this justice, but heres one thats ok:

Amen :star_struck:

These all remind me of the Meta Quest VR home screens where you can actually walk around in them. However, you can’t toast marshmallows in the fireplace. Not yet, anyway.

Its really beautiful and slow and peaceful. Reminds me of winter and snow. And the lyrics, especially the last line:

“sleep in heavenly peace”

If conditions are right, winter can make for some of the best sleeping weather.

I did not think about it now, but I wonder if that line is referring to deep dreamless sleep.

Great minds think a like.

I was going to post watching thunderstorms from a protected place, but figured they were too loud :upside_down_face:

There is something very peaceful about them, as long as they are not ripping off the roof of your home.

A Meta Quest sounds like a great experience ive not had! As well as never even seen a VR gear, except on the TV. But i had gathered things like lighting fires hadnt been integrated yet :joy:

Ahh yes … conjures up a happy place!

This you say hadn’t occured to me before. Thinking about it makes me think of all the animaks that are hibernating, slerping in cozy holes all around. Its very quiet here when it snows if theres no wind.

What is your favourite weather sleeping condition?

I like that!
Imagine if all the hibernating animals were experiencing that too Zzzzzz

But that would fit with “Solitude” :upside_down_face:

When a baby i stayed in my grandparents caravan whilst they were having a house built on same site. Im sure thats why i love rain pitter pattering on roofs.

Yes, I think we can learn a lot from them. I think this desire to hinernate is still in a way a part of us, and a reason why there is a slowing down of pace in the winger time.

Any precipitation, snow , rain, will typically make me sleep like a log. How about you?

Why stop there, how about the trees too???

Because the weather around our Island is normally extreme and wild, take like the last few days

I absolutely soooo appreciate the mid summer stillness with the almost 24hours of light and with that joy love sleeping in that. The springtime is good too, because of being woken by the dawn chorus.

Great one pointed focus meditation to watch this video in silence. Even if you imagined the sounds it would still be focused attention on a subject. Lovely until the advert disruption!

" Aposiopesis is a rhetorical term for an unfinished thought or broken sentence. Also known as interruptio and interpellatio.

In writing, aposiopesis is commonly signaled by a dash or ellipsis points.

Like paralepsis and apophasis, aposiopesis is one of the classical figures of silence."

Can you spot the Aposiopesis here?:

“no sound, its all around”

Snowed heavily overnight, freeeezzzing bbbŕrrr
If it wasn’t so cold i would have popped out to photo the snow on the beach, so silent here all around.
