🕊 Expressions of Silence or Solitude

Snowing here, 4-5 so far, yet the doorbell rings and the Amazon guy left two bottles of condiments. No car or van around, just footprints . . . .

Beautifully silent then. Love seeing the animal footprints in the snow, it makes you realise the unseen life living around.

Some of the other islands in the region.

We got hit with a storm that brought a few days of Below zero weather, and similar winds.

Typical the highs this time of year are around 30, and the lows around 18, winter storms and arctic blasts are common this time of year, and really cool things down a lot.

Great documentary about a Carthusian monastery. The Carthusians are a Catholic monastic order that take a vow of silence and spend the majority of time alone in their cells in prayer. The only time they speak is when they sing during the daily services.

Here’s a documentary of a Carthusian monastery you can watch on YouTube. Very similar to the doc I recommended above. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1A8ABTbYHY

“The Quietest Place on Earth”: MSN

I spent time in an anechoic chamber decades ago at San Diego State, and my strongest memory is the sensation of my eardrums swelling uncomfortably outward sans the constant bombardment of external sound. This was prior to becoming a meditator, and it’s interesting to contemplate dark retreat in an anechoic chamber.

Great read! I wish this place was my bedroom, lol!

When I first started meditating I was amazed by how after getting still enough, the beating of my heart felt like it was rocking my whole body, like a ship on water. Really cool sensation.
