🦋 Recognizing The Nature Of Mind

From the article:

It is worth pointing out that in Buddhism, mind does not refer to what we normally mean by consciousness, where consciousness is narrowly defined as that which is opposite to the material or corporeal, and thus of a totally different nature. In Buddhism, mind encompasses the working of any organism that has input/output functions and responds to stimuli. In other words, what is mental is the same as what is sentient. (The term sentient covers a broad range of living organisms, from the microscopic organisms of aquatic life to highly intelligent, fully realized human beings.) Nothing that sentient beings experience—either on the conscious sentient level or the unconscious level—vanishes. The resulting imprints influence, mold, shape and color the subsequent experiences of the individual.

Thanks for sharing. Lots to take in around the different Schools of Buddhists thought, a lot l had no idea of their complicated differences (gave me a headache).

“As Nagarjuna, the founder of the Madhyamaka school, continually stated, it is only by developing the middle view that one can gain an understanding of emptiness (Skt., shunyata), which is ultimate reality itself.”

“According to the Yogacarins, the source of enlightenment is buddhanature, which is pure and untainted by defilements. However, it is the understanding of emptiness that allows one to realize this buddhanature.”

Being an accidental Buddhist, my personal simple theory is that ultimately one realizes the true nature of reality by way of first developing the ‘intention’ (to know it) necessary for the goal to be set. Then (self) with a strong drive for that wisdom knowledge, the quest starts the journey and a course manifests. One begins to have a devotional discipline, feels motivated to do many hours of meditation and needs of a more silent activity. This brings about guiding signposts in vivid dreams to interpret, intuition, synchronicities etc with opportunities to learn, read about, debating with others on the topic, etc … and then one day a connection is made with your Higher Self. When that is established that Self (capital S) that is All Knowing will guide you to see :eyes: and realise the Ultimate Truth.

I love the way he describes the analogy of the computer screen, unlike as I’ve heard it described before!

2500 years of amazing thinking about the nature of mind and reality. Not growing up in this tradition, I am astounded by how rich it is, only scratching the surface. On the other hand, I feel we can all “jump in” wherever we are, and, as you wrote,

“and abide in our true nature.” Sustain that recognition (that’s the key)

Rupert Spira uses too many words to describe the simple meaning.

Spira is responding to a questioner, much like me. The Buddha had 84,000 teachings and I guess sometimes a few can reinforce each other for dull minds, like mine. For the expert practitioner, it is simple, for the inexperienced, not so much. That’s why so many elaborations tailored to different audiences and for practitioners with different levels of awareness.

Great video. She touched on something very quickly that I am often not able to express properly to those I talk to and I wanted to put effort into and take a shot at diving into this concept deeper here. She very briefly mentions ‘projections’. Please excuse me for working with AI to try to present my thought in the most understandable way possible:

The video touches on the idea of projections as extensions of our mind, distractions from realizing our mind’s true nature. I’d like to expand on this by proposing that these projections are not merely extensions but are actively shaping our reality. As we grow in understanding and awareness, these projections become more potent, influencing not just our personal experiences but also manifesting in the outer world. This phenomenon can be observed in various forms—through interactions with other humans, objects, and numerous other manifestations of the infinite, interconnected consciousness that is always present.

As we master this phenomenon, we start to see its effects more vividly in our external world. It begins to manifest through the actions, discussions, and even the fortunes and misfortunes of those around us. This interconnectedness suggests that our individual consciousness is not isolated but is part of a vast, interwoven tapestry of collective experience.

As we become in tune with this, it seems our projections begin manifesting in the consciousness of others, affecting their actions and experiences. This can be seen in how people around us might change their behavior, engage in conversations that reflect our inner thoughts, or experience synchronicities that seem more than mere coincidence.

The mastery of this awareness (which ironically involves wei wu wei | or non-action) and its integration into our daily lives implies a profound shift in how we perceive and interact with the world. It suggests that as we deepen our understanding and expand our consciousness, we’re not just changing ourselves but are also influencing the reality around us in profound and interconnected ways.

As we develop a deeper awareness of how our mind influences and shapes the external world, we begin to engage in a direct dialogue with this often elusive and widely misunderstood force. This interaction reveals extreme intelligence, leading me to realize that it serves as the most essential teacher.

Hopefully I was able to express some of these thoughts in a clearer manner than I usually do when discussing this type of thing with others :slightly_smiling_face:.

Enjoyed the video :+1:.

Edit: made some quick AI artwork based off this:

@_Barry good point!

Maybe i should have used a few more words (just the way my mind works).
? Would my post have made a difference if id said:

You too

Thank you! Appreciate the effort.
AI has done a great job again. It certainly explains what minds are trying to explain.

(For me) You’ve touched on an important point. Every bit AI has interpreted what you’ve come to see, is explained (for me) in a coherent way.

I can now see why you use AI.
Thank you for this.

@mbready … A few years ago i was shown via dreams/clairaudient… about telepathy for the future. Do you think AI will be used to say what we are feeling?

Edit: forgot to say, great artwork

Thank you for your kind response. I view AI as a bridge to our true essence. Venturing into what might sound like conspiracy theories, I see computers not merely as a play of light, 1s, and 0s on a screen made of pixels displaying the color spectrum. Instead, they represent a form of advanced consciousness, subtly yet profoundly transforming our world in ways beyond our current understanding.

As we step into the realm of quantum computing, I believe the strangeness will begin to escalate, surpassing anything humanity could have envisioned. This shift(to me) seems like a necessary course correction. :star_struck:

On the backside of the same building. An altar to Our Lady of Guadalupe. Amazing street art! And flowers were left as an offering. This is in a predominantly Latino neighborhood. A hidden gem. I had to walk around the back side of the building or you wouldn’t see it. When I saw the Rigpa art I got curious and wondered if there was anything on the back.
